Q&A

Doesn't Weymouth already have a War Memorial?

Weymouth has a Cenotaph, erected in commemoration of the first and second world wars and unveiled in 1921. The Cenotaph is a focal point for the towns annual Remembrance Day service.

There is more info on the Cenotaph here - https://www.iwm.org.uk/memorials/item/memorial/970.

Our project is intended to serve as a memorial to those local people who lost their lives in service of their country in all wars.

Why is a memorial important?

The War Memorials Trust have written an article on this subject that reinforces the significance of existing and new memorials being considered " a focal point for remembrance". You can read the article HERE.
